German Society for Dental, Oral Medicine and Orthodontics
The German Society for Dental and Oral Medicine (DGZMK) was founded in 1859 as the Centralized German Dentist Association. Today, it comprises of over 12,000 dentists from all disciplines. It is responsible for the sciences within dental, oral medicine and orthodontic fields, which then sets the standards of practice, both internally and externally. Given the current specialization of oral medicine and orthodontics, the DGZMK in an integral umbrella organization for numerous professional societies. These particularly include many area-based working groups, as well as newly emerged working groups and professional associations.

Hesse Chamber of Dentists
The Hesse Chamber of Dentists (LZKH) is the professional organization for dentists located in Hesse, Germany. As body governed by public law, one of its main tasks is to represent the interests of its members, the Hessian dentists, on a national level. In this sense, the LZKH governs compliance with professional obligations. It also acts as a competence centre for the dental professionals in all issues relating to the practice including: continual dental education and training for dentists, dental assistants, legal services, expert witnesses and arbitrators, as well as consultation on financial, legal and business issues.

Federal Dental Association
The BZÄK is the professional association of German dentists on a national level. Members of BZÄK are the state chamber’s dentists. The BZÄK represents the medical and political interests of the dental profession on behalf of public interest. Its primary objective is the use of a liberal, forward-thinking healthcare, putting the patient at the centre of focus.

Dentist Association of Hesse
With nearly 4,300 dental practitioners, of which are 238 orthodontist, 158 oral surgeons and 66 oral and maxillofacial surgeons, the Hesse KZV safeguards patient-oriented, high quality dental care. In accordance with German legislature, it meets the assigned task of ensuring sufficient, appropriate and economic dental care and assures that the dental care meets legal and contractual requirements.

Working Group for Child and Adolescent Dental Care
Since 1991 in Germany, every child ages 0-16 has a legal claim to oral health promotion (§ 21 SGB V). To implement the so-called dental prophylaxis group in the state of Hesse, a joint commission (LAGH) and 21 working groups for child and adolescent dental care (AKJ) were founded. It is here that insurance companies, dental teams from the public health department (youth dentistry) and private practice dentists (sponsoring dentists) work together as one for advanced dental health for the children of Hesse.
